Patients often think that braces (orthodontics) is a treatment only for our younger patients. It is never too late to get braces. However, more and more adults are having their teeth straightened for reasons such as cosmetics, making their smile look younger, moving teeth so that they quit chipping or breaking teeth, relieving pain in the TMJ or muscle soreness, or to make space for other treatments such as implants and veneers. Moving the teeth with orthodontics can be done in a couple of different ways. Traditional braces are composed of metal or clear brackets on the teeth that attach to a wire that is used to move the teeth. This process can also be done now with computers in order to decrease the time of treatment and the accuracy of tooth movement. The other option is a clear retainer type orthodontics, such as invisalign, that moves the teeth with retainers instead of brackets. Either way, orthodontics is an exciting area of dentistry and provides a conservative method to either change appearances, eliminate pain or protect the teeth. Is it too late to get braces?
Tuesday, April 13th, 2010Is it ever too late to get dental braces?
Friday, February 26th, 2010We have a lot of adult patients in our dental practice who are being treated with braces (orthodontics) for a variety of reasons. Some patients simply want to straighten their smile for cosmetic reasons while others have problems with their TMJ or the way they bite. Regardless of whether you are 12 years old or 82, braces can be a valuable service to give patients the smile and comfort that they want. The lenght of time that a patient wears braces can range most commonly from 12 to 24 months depending upon the goals of the patient. In addition, braces give us the opportunity to move teeth in a conservative way without causing harm to the teeth and can create a more youthful smile. It is never too late to be proud of the way you smile or to have a more comfortable eating experience. Carson Kutsch Dentist Albany Oregon www.drkutsch.com
