There are many options today in dentistry to decrease the amount of anxiety involved in your appointment. Sedation dentistry is a rapidly growing area in our field. We offer nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, and oral sedatives, which is in the form of a pill taken prior to the appointment. Both of these help decrease the amount of anxiety that the patient experiences during their appointment. These can be utilized for something more simple like a cleaning or longer appointments for crowns, root canals, and implants. It is completely up to the patient’s comfort level. We can also utilize our specialist for IV sedation dentistry in the most extreme cases. Sedation dentistry has been around for over 100 years. If you are nervous about going to the dentist, this is okay and normal. There are options to help make you more comfortable. Dr. Carson Kutsch Albany Oregon Dentist www.drkutsch.com

Nervous about dentistry?
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010What is a root canal?
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009A root canal is a procedure that removes the pulp (nerve) of the tooth and replaces it with a flexible filling material. This is performed when the nerve dies, becomes extremely inflammated, or infected. Typically, the patient will notice an increase in sensation to temperature on the tooth as well as pain when biting when the nerve is having a problem. In severe cases, there can also be swelling and this can be life threatening. Teeth that have a lot of cracks, a history of trauma, or extremely large silver fillings are usually the highest risk for having a root canal. Once a root canal is performed, the tooth is more brittle and a crown (cap) is placed on top of the tooth to protect it from fracturing. Most of the time, teeth with extensive fractures can be crowned before the nerve becomes inflammed in order to prevent a future root canal. Carson Kutsch Albany Oregon Dentist www.drkutsch.com
Single Appointment Crowns
Thursday, November 5th, 2009As computers have continued to become more and more integrated into our personal lives, they have also changed the practice of dentistry. When teeth begin to crack or break, we traditionally prepared the tooth for a “cap” or crown. This process involved multiple appointments, impressions, and temporary crowns. However, now we can do this in one appointment without impressions with a computer called the “Cerec.” The Cerec is a CAD/CAM machine that takes a digital image of the tooth and allows us to fabricate the crown while the patient is comfortably waiting. Not only does this take less time but it also decreases the risk of sensitivity and having a temporary fall off. Finally, computers can be used in our favor to make this dental procedure more enjoyable to the patient!! Carson Kutsch -Visit our website at www.drkutsch.com
